Saskatchewan Alcohol and Drug Services is mandated by Saskatchewan Health to administer and deliver addiction services through the Regional Health Authorities. These addiction services are available to all Saskatchewan residents and their families. Services include (1) inpatient services, (2) outpatient services, (3) long-term residential services, (4) detoxification services and (5) youth drug detoxification and stabilization.
An Alcohol Prevention and Education Directorate is responsible for the coordination of local initiatives and province-wide campaigns.
Since April 1, 2006 the provincial government has legislated for involuntary detoxification and stabilization of youth 12-17 years of age in a facility for that purpose through a detoxification order by two physicians for a period up to five days, with the possibility of an extension for a maximum of two additional five-day periods. Involuntary detoxification/stabilization serves as a measure of last resort for parents, legal guardians and judges when it is determined that a youth's substance use has damaged their decision-making ability to the point they present a risk to their own safety or the safety of others. For more information visit the Youth Drug Detoxification and Stabilization Act of Saskatchewan section of the Government of Saskatchewan website.
The Metis Addictions Council of Saskatchewan Incorporated (MACSI)detoxification, inpatient drug rehab, outpatient drug rehab and outreach for adults and youth. Although the majority of clients are of Metis ancestry, services are available to all residents of Saskatchewan.
