Note: This is a 6 bed program for abused, homeless, at risk, and behaviorally disordered youth 12 - 18. The length of stay is dependent on how long it takes to find a stable place to live more permanently. Clients are be referred by MCFD. Methadone clients are accepted. Alternate Shelter Society is considered a last resort for youth who have been recently removed from unsuitable environments, are in care by agreement, are between placements, or are “on the run” as a means of survival. There is no fee for this program.

Note: This is a 10 bed (5 beds for homeless women and 5 beds for women from Corrections Canada) barrier-free program and emergency shelter for Aboriginal women in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Clients can self-refer. CSC clients are accepted. Program offers culturally appropriate healing including Pipe Ceremonies, smudging, cleansing, Sweat Lodge, drum/rattle making, and arts.

Note: This is a 90 day, 28 bed program for women 19+ (including transgender women). Clients must be referred and do not need to be sober prior to admission. Methadone clients are accepted. Program offers groups and activities focused on trauma, substance dependency, mental and physical health issues, motivational enhancement, smoking cessation, mindfulness practice, relapse prevention skills and emotional regulation skills. Fees are per diem; there are several ways to receive funding.

Note: This is a 6 bed program for adults 19 - 50 with concurrent mental health and substance use issues. Clients typically stay 6 months to 1 year. Harm reduction model of support is used. Clients must be referred, most often by Mental Health Housing Services (VCH). Berman House offers education, skills and support systems, as well as the Adventure Therapy Program, where clients develop life skills and trust through nature, physical exercise, and mental endurance.
